August 16, Day 32: Grand Canyon National Park (part 2)

  • Miles today:   0
  • Trip Total:  6814
  • Weather:  Clear skies.  High 88F.
  • Theme song:  "Miles And Miles" by The Who
  • Rodgerism:  "I'm so tired.  I've walked for 180,000,000 years."
  • Lesson:  Free shuttles to all shops and trailheads inside the park, even from outside the park.

Just an easy day of walking along the south rim of the Grand Canyon along nice paved trails.

California Condor

There are several trailheads below the rim.  It is recommended that groups hike down one one day either defore 10:00am or after 4:00pm, and return the following day during those same time-windows, as the temperature below the rim is typically +20F above the temperature above the rim (where it was 88F today).

After a lazy afternoon, we caught another bus out to Yaki Point (only shuttle buses allowed) for the sunset.

In the "small world" department, Rachael ran into a classmate from Auburn.

For about the last hour of sunset, the colors and shadows change almost by the minute.

Teresa wasn't at all happy with how close the kids were getting to the edge for their photographic ambitions.

Then back on the bus(es) with a few-hundred others trying to get back to the parking lots and campgrounds after the sunset fun had ended.
